Joe knows that the only way to save humanity is to expose it. Earth must learn of its role in the larger human community. After he delivers the Mars rover “Spirit” back to Earth, he confronts the ruling council on the human home worlds. The home worlds are in decline, completely dependent on machines and overrun by excesses of sex and drug use, people on the home worlds no longer have any drive for life or the desire to better themselves. The people of Earth are “free formed humans”, their emotional center was allowed to freely form. The people of the home worlds have their emotions dampened, because emotions are feared. Dampening the emotions has caused that society to stagnate and eventually they will die. Once the plan is put into motion he must confront an old enemy. This confrontation leads to the beings that originally created humans.
